Coffee Origin Notes

This Cup of Excellence winner is a result of the combined efforts of three farmers. Jorge Urena Zuniga, Ana Isabel Urena Hidalgo, and Luis Roberto Cordero Mena altogether produced just over 3,000 pounds of green coffee and took 3rd place this year. Because of this coffee's high altitude, it is categorized as SHB (Strictly Hard Bean). A denser, harder bean is usually characteristic of higher growing conditions due to more extreme growing conditions involving higher wind speeds and drastic temperature changes throughout the day. These conditions cause the cherries to mature slower and sweeter, giving this Costa Rica the complexity that we love.
